PJ Lynch completes his 'Ghost of Christmas Present' in the window of Hodges Figgis

As reported last week, PJ Lynch 'installed' himself in the window at Hodges Figgis Bookstore in Dublin.
The event was featured on RTE Television's News2Day here (Click on 24th Nov.) and PJ was interviewed on Nadine O Regan's show on Phantom FM.  The interview dicussed 'Art in Unusual Places' and while the window was an unusual place for an artist to work, PJ found enough elbow room within which to work and thoroughly enjoyed the feedback from passing customers.  You can read PJ's account of the event here

 The painting is currently being mounted in the window and will form the backdrop for the Hodges Figgis Christmas Window.  Printed scenes from 'A Christmas Carol' have been mounted in the adjacent windows and you can see the finished display until Christmas.

First Photos of PJ Lynch painting at Hodges Figgis

PJ Lynch paints 'live' at Hodges Figgis

On Wednesday 23rd November PJ Lynch will paint a large canvas in the window at Hodges Figgis, Dublin.
PJ has chosen to recreate the scene of the Ghost of Christmas Present from his illustrated version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol.  The two adjacent windows will be adorned with huge backdrop printed images from the same book so the finished display with PJ's original art in the main window will be impressive to say the least!
PJ will be 'installed' in the main window until Saturday 26th November, so he has commenced work on the painting in his studio.  Visitors to the shop will be able to see his work in progress - well beyond pencil sketches and roughs but you can see the work so far in stages below.

Mirror wins British Book Design Award

Mirror by Jeannie Baker has won the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Education category of the British Book Design and Production Awards.

The award was announced last week and collected by Alan Lee and Nicola Constable from Walker Books at a glittering production and design evening held at the The Lancaster London Hotel. The event was themed ‘Once Upon a Time’ … to celebrate just what remarkable achievements have been made in the last year in the quest to bring out the best in British book design and production.

The judge’s had nothing but lovely things to say about Mirror:

 “Great eye catching design inside and out, good use of illustrations, well printed, we loved the layout and concept.”

In addition to Mirror winning its category, two Walker titles were also Highly Commended in the Children’s Trade category – both A Bit Lost and A Monster Calls rightly received this commendation.
